Liquid rhinoplasty can be an attractive option for patients who feel their noses may benefit from augmentation in certain areas. Those with low nasal bridges and/or poorly defined nasal tips can often be helped with this non-surgical procedure available from our experienced plastic surgeon, Dr. Eric Okamoto. Noses with irregular surfaces or crookedness can also be improved with a liquid rhinoplasty.
A procedure that can be performed in the office, liquid rhinoplasty involves the use of injectable dermal fillers to augment the nose where needed. The most commonly used fillers are hyaluronic acid-based solutions, like Restylane® or Restylane® Lyft. The fillers are injected into the targeted areas of the nose in a procedure that is generally accomplished with minimal discomfort. There is typically no need for anesthesia, other than the anesthetic that comes with the injectable; however, patients who are a bit more nervous are offered a topical anesthetic or icing.
The effects of liquid rhinoplasty last a variable amount of time. Generally, improvement persists for about one year, but some patients have seen results last for considerably longer periods.
A very cogent benefit from a liquid rhinoplasty is immediate gratification. Individuals can walk into the office with a certain degree of self-consciousness about the look of their nose and walk out with more confidence in their appearance. Keep in mind, there is a limit as to how much the nose can be altered with an injectable; however, sometimes it can be quite substantial.
